SONIC GEAR UP FOR FORMULA FORD OPENER

Whilst most teams are caught up in the hurly burly of downloading data, unloading equipment and analysing The Clipsal 500 weekend, Sonic Motor Racing Services have been busying themselves with a full test day at Philip Island and a race weekend for their State Formula Ford Series commitments at Winton.

“It’s never a dull moment here,” admits Sonic co-principal Maria Ritter, “the boys had a full test day with our five Formula Ford drivers this week at Philip Island and now it’s time for competition with the first round of the Victorian State Championship.”

The full compliment of Sonic Formula Ford pilots, with State Series and National Series drivers, includes some of the most exciting new talents in the world of Motorsport.

“They seem to get younger and younger,” concedes Ritter, “we’re really excited about this year’s crop of drivers and excited to get the season underway.”

14-year-old rookie Christian Morina feels the same way.

“I’ve done some testing laps at Winton and now Philip Island this week I can’t wait to get started,” says the enthusiastic teenager, “I’m determined to learn as much as I can in my first year.”

Morina is joined by fellow teenagers Victorian Anton Depasquale and South Aussie youngster Luke Marquis.

“On a weekend like this it’s our first opportunity to look at the boys in race trim,” says Sonic Principal Michael Ritter, “you can do all the testing in the world but nothing compares to lining up on the grid and experiencing the pressure of race starts and things like traffic. We’ll all learn a lot from these boys in the next two days.”

The three new racers will contest the entire Victorian Formula Ford State Championship schedule with the possibility of some national competition events.

“The State level competition is the place to start, and if it appears they’re up for it a dip into the national pool is a good performance indicator every now and then. Right now we’re concentrating on this weekend and how the boys perform. I think we’re in for a great year.”
