Sonic Motor Racing Services was
founded by Michael Ritter in 1998 and over the past 12 years
has firmly established itself as the
team best able to guide young aspiring drivers from junior categories
such
as Formula Ford, to become
professional drivers able to work comfortably in a pressure filled
environment.
Since its inception, Sonic has delivered a level a
preparation and professionalism not before seen in the
Australian Formula Ford Championship. This approach
has seen the team challenge for the championship over the past ten
years, with Sonic drivers wining the 2001, 2002, 2004, 2007 and 2009
Australian Formula Ford Championships.
In 2005 Sonic Motor Racing Services initiated the
next step in what it anticipates will be the progression to becoming one
of Australia’s most successful teams, competing in the V8 Supercar
Championship Series. The team entered a pair of 996 Porsche GT3 Cup Cars
in the Australian Carrera Cup Championship, alongside its Australian
Formula Ford Championship commitments.
By seasons end it was obvious to see that Sonic’s
meticulous preparation and engineering skills that had provided the team
with many success’ in Formula Ford, had resulted in a new found level of
professional in the Carrera Cup ranks. The team enjoyed a successful
first year of competition in the Australian Carrera Cup, and quickly
moved to cement its position in the Championship with the addition of a
third car to the team in 2006. Whilst the team expanded within, so did
the Carrera Cup with the arrival of a new model 997 Porsche GT3 Cup Car
for competition in 2006.
In addition to its expanding Carrera Cup program,
the team entered a car in the Australian GT Championship competing in
the Porsche Drivers Challenge. The professionalism and attention to
detail of the team was again evident throughout 2006 with many race and
round wins in Carrera Cup, and the team also won the Australian GT
Endurance Championship.
Further expansion in 2007 continued
with the team adding a second entry to its Porsche Drivers Challenge
efforts, along with the teams three Formula Fords and three Carrera Cup
cars. The team enjoyed there most successful year to date in 2007 with
Sonic drivers winning the Australian Formula Ford Championship,
Australian Carrera Cup Championship, and the Porsche Drivers Challenge.
This remarkable achievement was a testament to the determination and
effort by the entire team throughout the
year.
In 2008, Sonic Motor Racing Services continued to
grow with the addition of another 997 Porsche GT3 Cup Car to its Carrera
Cup program. With stability and continuity with its Formula Ford and GT3
Cup Challenge programs, 2008 once again saw a number of race wins that
ensured Sonic was at the forefront of driver development in
Australia.
2009 was a significant year in the
history of Sonic Motor Racing Services with the much anticipated
announcement that Sonic would be joining the V8 Supercar ranks. Aligning
themselves with multiple Bathurst and Championship winning team Triple
Eight Race Engineering, Sonic won on their debut at Clipsal and finished
runner up in the Championship. Further success followed in Formula Ford
as they wrapped up a record 5th Championship Win.
Going into 2010 there are high hopes
for Sonic as they enter cars in the Australian and Victorian Formula
Ford Championships as well as the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series and the GT3
Cup Challenge.
